Acceptance of terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at pdftheguide.com and all related tools and services (collectively, the "Service") operated by PDFTheGuide ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Service you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

Description of service

PDFTheGuide provides a free, browser-based PDF editor that allows users to view, annotate, sign, fill, and download PDF documents. All PDF processing occurs entirely within the user's web browser. No files are uploaded to or stored on our servers. The Service is provided free of charge, requires no account registration, and places no watermark on downloaded documents.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You must not:

• Use the Service to create, edit, or distribute fraudulent, forged, or misleading documents, including counterfeit identification, contracts, certificates, or financial instruments.
• Use the Service to process documents containing content that is illegal under applicable law, including child sexual abuse material, incitement to violence, or content that infringes third-party rights.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service, or to interfere with or disrupt the servers or networks connected to it.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Service in a manner that imposes a disproportionate load on our infrastructure.
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or entity, or impersonate any individual or organisation.
• Use the Service to circumvent any technical protection measures in PDF files you do not have authorisation to access or modify.

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate legal action against anyone who, in our sole discretion, violates this provision, including reporting to law enforcement authorities.

Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, text, graphics, logos, and user interface, is owned by or licensed to PDFTheGuide and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our express prior written consent.

The Service is built using open-source libraries including Astro, Svelte, pdf-lib, and pdfjs-dist, which are used in accordance with their respective open-source licences (MIT, Apache 2.0). Nothing in these Terms restricts your rights under those open-source licences in relation to the underlying libraries.

Your content

Because the Service processes files entirely in your browser, no document content is transmitted to us. You retain full ownership of any PDF files you open or create using the Service. We claim no rights over your documents, their contents, or the edits you make.

You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights, licences, and permissions to edit any document you process using the Service, and that doing so does not violate any applicable law or third-party rights.

You are solely responsible for the legality and appropriateness of the content you place in documents using the Service. We accept no liability for documents produced using the tool.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that output produced by the Service will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Signatures: Electronic signatures created using PDFTheGuide are graphical images placed on documents. They are not certified qualified electronic signatures under eIDAS, the US ESIGN Act, UETA, or equivalent legislation. For legally binding electronic signatures, use a dedicated e-signature service that provides identity verification and audit trails.

Redaction: The redaction tool applies a solid overlay on the document. For legally binding, forensically verified redaction of sensitive documents (legal discovery, medical records, government disclosure), use a specialist redaction tool and seek appropriate professional advice.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall PDFTheGuide, its operators, affiliates, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, loss of business, or any other loss arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising from or relating to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, given the Service is free, will typically be zero).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PDFTheGuide and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by updating this page. The updated version will be effective from the date shown in the "Last updated" field at the top of this page. Governing law
