Does whiteout permanently remove the content underneath?
The whiteout tool covers content with a solid white rectangle in the downloaded PDF. The underlying data in the PDF structure is not deleted — for permanent removal use the Redact tool instead, which strips the underlying content.
Can I place new text on top of a whiteout block?
Yes — that is the most common use case. Cover the existing text with a whiteout block, then place a new text box on top. The result looks like the original text was replaced.
Will the whiteout be visible in dark mode PDF viewers?
The whiteout is a solid white fill, so it will always appear white regardless of the viewer theme. On pages with a white background this is invisible. On dark-background pages it will show as a white block.
Can I resize the whiteout area after placing it?
Yes. Select the whiteout block with the Select tool and drag any corner or edge handle to resize it precisely.
Can I whiteout content on a scanned PDF?
Yes. The whiteout overlay works on any PDF page regardless of content type — scanned images, text, graphics, or mixed pages.
Is there a difference between whiteout and the eraser?
Yes. The eraser removes overlay elements you have placed yourself (text boxes, images, shapes). The whiteout tool covers original PDF content with a white rectangle. They serve different purposes.
