Rectangle
Box, frame, or highlight any region. Set corner radius, fill colour, and border width independently.
Ellipse
Draw circles or ovals. Useful for circling key figures, callouts, or marking diagram nodes.
Line
Draw a straight line between any two points. Control colour, width, and opacity.
Arrow
A line with an arrowhead — ideal for pointing to specific content, labelling elements, or flowcharts.
Full style control
Stroke colour
Pick any border colour using the colour picker. Supports full hex and opacity control.
Fill colour
Add a solid or semi-transparent fill inside rectangles and ellipses.
Stroke width
Set the border thickness from hairline to thick — directly in the Properties panel.
Opacity
Fade any shape from fully opaque to nearly invisible. Great for subtle background highlights.
Resize & move
Drag corner handles to resize. Drag the body to reposition. Arrow-key nudge for precision.
Lock
Lock a shape to prevent accidental moves while editing other elements on the same page.
Frequently asked questions
What shape types are available?
The shapes tool includes rectangles, ellipses (circles), straight lines, and arrows. Each can be customised with stroke colour, stroke width, fill colour, and opacity.
Can I add a fill colour to a shape?
Yes. Select any shape and use the Properties panel to set both a stroke (border) colour and a separate fill colour. Set fill opacity to 0 for an outline-only shape.
Can I draw shapes over scanned PDFs?
Yes. Shapes are placed as overlay objects and work on any PDF — scanned or text-based. The original content is not modified.
Will shapes appear in Adobe Reader and other viewers?
Yes. Shapes are embedded in the downloaded PDF as standard vector annotations, visible in Adobe Reader, Chrome PDF viewer, and all major PDF readers.
Can I resize or move a shape after placing it?
Yes. Select the shape with the Select tool and drag to move it, or drag any corner or edge handle to resize. You can also nudge it with the arrow keys.
Is there a limit on how many shapes I can add?
No. You can add as many shapes as you need across any number of pages.
